Commissioner's Rankings 2022
We did it guys. After ten years of saying we would do Thumper Draft 10 in Vegas, we did it. Looking forward to Thumper Draft 11 at Lucky Star Watonga, Thumper Draft 15 at a Mexican All Inclusive Resort, and Thumper Draft 25 at Monte Cristo.
What a draft. What a view. Thanks Larry for renting out the nicest suite most of us will ever step foot in. Thanks to everyone that was quick to make their picks. No thanks to Bruce, Aron, and anyone that went downstairs for a shot! (I take this back. Dom was actually really quick and we were technically waiting on him during this time.)
Let’s get on to the draft rankings.
Kevin - Trust me when I say it pains me to pick Kevin as having the best draft. His starters are just solid from top to bottom and he has guys like Thielen and Boyd on his bench still. I think Chase falling to Kevin was insane. The guy showed up as a rookie and will only get better. I was pissed when Kevin took Godwin too because my list didn’t have Godwin ranked where he should be. I’m on the Kyler breakout season bandwagon right now and think he can finish as a top 3 QB. And then at RB he doesn’t have the flashy studs, but he has the workhorses that will get the carries and still finish top 15 in Mixon and Zeke, with Singletary and Carter who finished the season strong last year. Kevin should easily make the playoffs.
Larry - I originally had Larry lower in my rankings, but other than RB2 his team is pretty stacked. Cam Akers scares me and his only replacements are Pollard and Falcons rookie Allgeier. I’m sure he’ll figure something out soon. Or get lucky and Pollard or Allgeier will blow up. Really not much else to say about how good this team is.
Clint - In the last few years I have not liked Clint’s teams if I remember correctly. This year his minutes of research have changed that. If CMC stays healthy then this team could be unstoppable. The rest of his starters are in that tier 2-3 range for each position. If Cousins and the Vikings coaching staff do what we’ve been told would happen all offseason, then he could finally end up being a top 6 QB this year. Depends on how “pass-happy” this team really decides they want to be. I really like all the WRs he selected for his bench. Would have liked to see at least one RB on there, but sometimes taking the best available player is the better option.
Dominique - I like this team a lot but that’s mostly because Dom and I like a lot of the same players. Dillon may be the backup but I think he and Jones will be RB 1a and 1b in Green Bay most of the year. Why draft Jones in the 2nd when you can get Dillon in the 6th? Same with his WRs. Pittmans and Lamb could both finish as the top WR in fantasy. Mooney is going to get peppered with targets. That’s what happens when there are no weapons on your team. The only thing holding him back is Lawrence. He didn’t look like the generational talent we expected last year, but Urban is gone and we should get to see what he’s actually capable of this year.
Bruce - His lengthy draft times or 5 minutes plus every round look like they paid off. QB1, two top 12 RBs, and then two of the most underrated WRs in the league should be able to carry this team to the playoffs. The biggest question on the team is his TE and bench depth. I’m not the Bateman believed everyone else seems to be. A second QB wasn’t needed. Burks has been injured most of the preseason. Sanders has always been questionable at best. We’ll see what happens. Hope for few injuries on this team.
Aron - A top 2 QB, 2 top 12 RBs (maybe), and not flashy WRs but very good WRs that should exceed expectations. That’s all it takes to make the playoffs and that’s exactly what Aron has. Looks like his long draft times also worked out for him. His bench is nothing crazy but it’s also not close to the worst bench that was drafted. Best case scenario, breezes into the playoffs. Worst case, Kamara’s lawyers cant protect him and he gets suspended during the season. Aron doesn’t have
Bryan - DJ Moore and Travs Kelce. Those are the picks I love. Kittle is a good flex play, but there were plenty of guys I would rather have that were available, especially when I’m starting two RBs from the same team. I mean Gordon is one of the most undervalued players in the NFL, so that’s a good fill-in. I hate Claypool and think he falls off this year… Even worse Bryan drafted two Kickers and two QBs that I think will underperform to their ADP. Typical Bryan team that will make the playoffs somehow. #DontTradeBryan
Chris - This was probably the hardest team to rank. Brady is the goat but there are all these stories that this may be the end whether he likes it or not. Cook has been a top RB when healthy. I hope Mattison doesn’t eat into his carries and that this new air raid offense doesn’t forget about Cook. I want to believe in the other RBs but Patterson may have been a flash in the pan, while there are questions about both rookie RBs. Cook was a nobody before getting drafted to the Bills. Feels like a situation thing similar to CEH his rookie year. Also just a lot of questions with his WRs and TE. Can Deebo have the production he had last year after saying he didn’t want to run the ball as much? Does McLaurin take a step back with Dotson in the picture? Can Thomas stay healthy? Stay tuned.
Brady - I just lost my secret weapon to a carjacking. I’m not ranking myself any higher.
Logan - Similar to Chris’s team I just have a lot of questions. Is Wilson able to produce immediately? Can Henry’s old bones stay together for a full season? Did Fat Lenny eat himself into a food coma? Is A-Rob the player he was with the Jags or is he actually washed like we saw with the Bears? Will Jacobs and Henderson share Carrie’s in their committees all year? Can Hopkins bounce back after suspension AND will it be too late for Logan AND will he get the targets we’re used to seeing when they have new weapons in town like Hollywood and second year player Rondale? This is a team that could win it all or finish last.
Rusty - I’ll be honest, you were my worst rated team until five minutes ago when reports came out about Robinson getting shot. Congrats. Probably the strongest WR group other than Dom. Makes sense when you draft 4 straight to start the draft. I had questions about your RBs but you now have two starting RBs most likely. Still questionable about Mitchell and Shanahan’s love of RBBCs. Not a huge fan of Rodgers but took what you could get.
Austin - Hey Austin, good to see you here again. Feels like yesterday I said you had the worst draft. Well congrats on pulling it off again. I felt like you reached on Andrews. I understand why you did it, but still a reach when bryan can’t take more than two TEs before your next pick. Then you took Swift and I really liked what you were doing. Unfortunately that’s where it fell apart. I like Hall, but I’ve learned to not trust rookie RBs when they haven’t been established as the starter yet. Then you grabbed Etienne and I really fell off the train. Luckily you did grab Robinson so that saved a little face. Bad thing is you reached on these young RBs and missed out on stud WRs. Smith will be great, but he has to compete with Brown and Goedert. London will be the WR1 in Atlanta and could become a garbage time god, but Pitts and Patterson will be the top pass catchers in that offense. You then took another rookie WR and Cooper who will have Brissett throwing him the ball for 11 games. I don’t have a lot of faith in this squad, especially after MinshewMania runs wild in Philly this year. Congrats on your third toilet bowl championship.
Good luck to everyone but Rusty.
