2023 Season Wrap-Up and Awards
The season is over and we've made it to the playoffs. Well, some of us have. Better luck next year Logan, Rusty, Cord, Chris, Bryan and Austin.
Let's start off with a view at this beauty:
First Annual Thumper Awards
Best Draft Nominees:
Clint - CMC (1st Rd - RB1), Lamb (2nd Rd - WR2), Hurts (3rd Rd - QB3), Pittman (7th - WR11)
Bryan - Kelce (1st Rd - TE1), Josh Allen (2nd Rd - QB1), Kamara (5th Rd - RB9), Aiyuk (6th Rd - WR12), Warren (13th Rd - RB27)
Aron - Chase (1st Rd - WR5), Etienne (2nd Rd - RB3), Hockenson (3rd Rd - TE2), White (5th Rd - RB5), Montgomery (7th Rd - RB17)
Brady - Bijan (1st Rd - RB8), Keenan (5th Rd - WR3), Evans (6th Rd - WR7), Robinson Jr (9th Rd - RB13), Mostert (10th Rd - RB2)
Winner: Aron - Clint and Bryan had more players that finished 1st at their position, but Aron basically didn't miss on his first 8 picks. Round 6 was Godwin who was a major disappointment, but round 8 was Sutton who has been a TD machine.
Best Draft Pick Nominees:
1.01 - Christian McCaffrey
1.07 - Tyreek Hill
3.06 - TJ Hockenson
5.09 - Keenan Allen
10.04 - Raheem Mostert
Winner: Raheem Mostert - The fantasy MVP is most likely CMC after Hill was injured last week, but there is no better value in the draft than Mostert who is currently RB2 and the 5th highest scoring flex player in fantasy this year.
Best FAAB Pickup:
Week 2 - Kyren Williams - $45
Week 2 - Puka Nacua - $56
Week 3 - Jerome Ford - $201
Week 3 - Jaylen Warren - $85
Week 4 - De'von Achane - $189
Winner: Puka Nacua - I think this was a three horse race in reality (Kyren, Puka, Achane). Only reason I'm giving it to Puka is because he was the healthiest this season. Notice there were no nominees after week 4...
Worst Draft Nominees:
Kevin
Rusty
Winner: Kevin - I have zero idea how Kevin got the bye for Weatherford. I don't even really understand how he made the playoffs. Second lowest scoring team in the league. Terrible draft. Not great moves throughout the year. It's honestly pure luck. His picks weren't terrible, they just weren't great. There are two that really stick out:
Patrick Mahomes (1st Rd - QB5) - QB5 isn't bad right? He's only had 5 games over 30 points and only one of those since week 7.
Tee Higgins (3rd Rd - WR 59) - Just not good enough for a 3rd round pick.
Worst Draft Pick Nominees:
Patrick Mahomes (1st Round)
Darren Waller (3rd Round)
Tee Higgins (3rd Round)
Miles Sanders (4th Round)
Jerry Jeudy (4th Round)
Winner: Patrick Mahomes - I tried to not nominate players that were injured for a large part of the season. Waller has been injured, but he'd only had 1 or 2 good games prior to that. Higgins, Sanders , and Jeudy were abysmal, but Mahomes in the 1st round takes the win. Prescott is the QB2 and was drafted in the 7th. Purdy is the QB4 and wasn't even drafted. Same goes for Sam Howell who is QB7 and just 15 points behind Mahomes on the season.
Worst Waste of FAAB Nominees:
Week 2 - Kenneth Gainwell - $115
Week 2 - Anthony Richardson - $82
Week 4 - Joshua Palmer - $69
Week 4 - Elijah Moore - $46
Week 5 - Jeff Wilson Jr - $71
Week 7 - Zach Evans - $35
Winner: Jeff Wilson Jr - That's a lot of money spent on a backup RB (Gainwell) and a QB that played 1 full game this year. There are three reasons I'm giving the nod to Jeff Wilson Jr:
It was later in the season and all the good RB pickups were gone.
Bryan drafted Wilson, dropped him, and then spent nearly half his faab to get him back.
Bryan didn't draft RBs in the draft, then spent a ton of FAAB on one that did nothing for him.
That's it for the Thumper Awards this year. Let me know if you think of any awards to add next year.
Golden Toilet Seat Bracket Prediction:
I believe I said like 4 weeks ago that Logan's team could take off at any moment. I still think that. It would also be funny if they were the highest scoring team for the next three weeks. So I'm not picking the 12th seed. I really feel the same about Chris at 10th seed.
Austin and Bryan's teams are too good to lose the entire thing so they're out.
That leaves two teams: Cord and Rusty.
Cord - He has survived on the back of Lamar and Tyreek all season. The scary thing now is to see if Hill can still go. He said he couldn't cut last week. If he isn't healthy, the Dolphins could and should rest him until week 18. That would be a significant blow to Cord's team.
Rusty - Tua has been great, but his week 16 and 17 schedule is terrible. Tough to win matchups with a bad QB score. His RBs are trash. Let's not even talk about them. His playoffs rely on his WRs and TE.
Commissioner's Prediction for the Toilet Bowl Champ: Welcome to the league Cord!
